My Review August 29, 2010 Keithmj (Saint Petersburg, Fl) I just had to leave a review about this now even if I have had it just a few days. I was hoping that I wasn't getting a piece of junk as I haven't had much use on a ukulele and the one I have now is a toy. I was surprised when I got this Ukulele. I wasn't expecting it to be this nice and it sounds great. I don't see how I could of gotten a better one even if I paid more, it is a quality Ukulele, not a cheap toy like my other one. I spent the whole day just playing it and learning on it as it makes it enjoyable to use. I might even buy the Lanikai LU-21 or the LU-11 Soprano Ukulele because if they are built like this one then I'll be tickled pink and I can give my cheap toy one away.
If you buy one of these then buy the LUT-1 Chromatic & Ukulele Tuner by Lanikia at the same time so you'll have a perfect match.
The previous posted talked about putting better strings on it but mine came with Aquila Nylgut strings and I don't think you can get any better ones than these from what I have read. If there are better strings then let me know where so I can check them out as I need strings for my toy Soprano Ukulele.
I'll post more later after I have used this for awhile but right now I am very pleased with the Ukulele and it was well packed and I received it quicker than I thought I would. If you are thinking about buying a Ukulele then spend the extra cash and buy one of these, maybe not the S-C series but one from Lanikia, you won't be kicking yourself later on if you do.
Beginner Uke Player - Very Pleased! May 28, 2010 Momof3dd (Birmingham, AL United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just for fun, I bought this ukelele for my children and myself. I read music so I didn't think it would be that difficult to teach myself how to play and then teach my children. I was right and this uke has been a great beginner ukulele for our family. I had no previous experience with stringed instruments but this one has proved that it's pretty easy to learn once you put your mind to it. There is a ton of information on the internet about beginning ukulele and so many youtube tutorials that you don't even have to buy any instruction books to start out (unless you want to). It sounds great for the price. I thought about buying a cheaper one but my husband didn't want me to waste the money on one we wouldn't want to play long term. So after several days of researching ukes, this was the one we decided on. I'm not sure if it comes standard or not, but mine came with Aquila strings, which I've read is a good thing. I like that it's the concert size which gives us a little more versatility than the soprano uke. And the finish on it is absolutely beautiful - it really looks like a well-made instrument. It doesn't look cheap at all. I have been very pleased with this purchase and would buy it again. I highly recommend it!
Shocking Quality May 2, 2010 Ron & Anna Winship (Newport Beach, CA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
What was most impressive was the quality finish. Having
been a guitar player for years.....it was great to see
that the product we ordered had a great finish.
If someone is a first time Uke player....you might want
to get the Intelli IMT 500 Clip On Chromatic UKE tuner.
After we tuned up the Lanikai...we thought we were back
in the islands. You need to constantly tune a Uke....it
is not like a Guitar that stays in tune longer. But other
than that we are very pleased.
The Lanikai Concert is an affordable entry to Uke playing.
We were shocked to see some Uke's selling for up to $2000
dollars.
Anyway....good value and a nice piece.
Looked like a toy, but feels like serious business. December 22, 2009 C. P. LaChance (RI) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
When I first got this, it looked smaller than I had imagined. So I was initially disappointed, until I picked it up. This is a very high quality uke, and was recommened as top in its class for the price range. It has a great sound & I can't wait to re-string this thing with some real high quality strings!
Awesome sound for the price, perfect for beginner October 25, 2009 P. Tucker (San Francisco, CA United States) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Never considered owning a ukulele until a friend sent me the Jake Shimbukuru video. I was blown away. I don't ever expect to be that good, but seeing the way he played opened my mind up to the ukulele's versatility, and I decided I want to learn how to play. I don't have a lot of money, but I knew I wanted to get the best possible sounding instrument in my price range. I did a lot of research and found this one, and I am extremely pleased with the look and sound of this instrument, especially for the price. I loved it from the first strum, and have been practicing daily for 6 weeks. If I had bought a cheaper, poorer quality instrument, I doubt I would still be this enthusiastic about playing. If you have thought about buying a ukulele to learn, this is a great starter. And there are so many free instructional videos online that I am finding it very easy learn and progress. Happy playing!
